Sonic the Hedgehog fans have had quite a week, after Paramount Pictures released the official trailer for the live-action movie — getting a lot of harsh criticism for the redesign of the beloved blue hedgehog; criticism, mind you, that was not uncalled for.
In the midst of the huge backlash from fans,
Sonic the Hedgehog movie Director, Jeff Fowler, has taken to Twitter to let fans know that they have heard their fair criticism and that both Paramount Pictures and Sega are fully committed to making some much-needed changes in order to make Sonic the best he can be.
Again, the criticism came from Sonic's design, but the movie itself doesn't really look like it was that much of a mess. Granted, things could've been done very differently, but overall it could still end up being a solid film; that Sonic redesign, however, needed to go.
Sonic the Hedgehog will be released in theaters on the
7th of November, so Paramount still has a lot of time to redesign the character and maybe even address other concerns that fans of the blue hedgehog may have, but them listening to the fans is a very welcomed change of pace.
Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
