Dominic West will play
Lara Croft's father,
Lord Richard Croft, in the live-action
Tomb Raider movie from GK Films, MGM and Warner Bros. The video game movie first cast Vikander to play the titular lead and then secured Walton Goggins to play the villain and Daniel Wu to play a ship captain and longtime friend of West's character.
Jon Voight previously played the character in 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, which starred his real-life daughter, Angelna Jolie.
The movie will be primarily based on the 2010
Tomb Raider reboot from Crystal Dynamics.
The cast for
Tomb Raider is shaping up nicely but as
Assassin's Creed proved ( a film that starred Michael Fassbender, Marion Cottilard and Jeremy Irons) video game adaptations need more than an all-star cast. Will the Roar Uthaug directed pic be the first video game film to find the right balance of adherence to the source material and cinematic liberty?
Cameras are already rolling
according to Uthaug's Instagram so expect more casting announcements to follow shortly. The film is scheduled for release on March 16, 2018.
