Constantin Films is currently developing two feature-length movies based on Capcom's video game series - the Paul W. S. Anderson-helmed Monster Hunter and the reboot of the Resident Evil film series, that is expected to start production in 2019 with a brand new cast. Recently, it was revealed that the reboot has found its director in Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night).

James Wan (The Conjuring, Aquaman) was previously said to be in charge of producing Johannes Roberts' Resident Evil reboot. According to Bloody Disgusting, that is no longer the case, as Wan and his Atomic Monster Productions have officially parted ways with Constantin Films. “I’m not doing that anymore,” Wan said during a recent interview with the website. “That has been dropped.”

They announce that I’m attached to a lot of stuff and a lot of them are not necessarily real,” Wan continued. “It’s kind of annoying when things come and go, or things never came in the first place. I hate it when my projects get announced. It makes it seem like I’m attached to a lot of things when in fact I’m not necessarily doing so many things. A lot of my stuff just get announced and I don’t want them to be announced but people love to announce them.”

It’s the journalists that want to announce stuff,” Wan concluded. Resident Evil's first draft was written by Greg Russo, who's also scripting another upcoming video game adaptation, the Mortal Kombat reboot for New Line Cinema. As revealed by Russo, his version of the reboot is heavily inspired by Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, the latest installment in Capcom’s acclaimed horror video game series.
