Just a few days ago, Paramount Pictures finally released the first official trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie adaptation, and the reaction that it's had from fans is simply overwhelming; for all the wrong reasons, no less.

While the movie doesn't look offensively bad, the main reason why it's getting such a backlash from fans is Sonic's redesign; particularly his face, humanly proportions, realistic-looking teeth. Okay, fans really don't like anything about Sonic's live-action look.

Recently, original Sonic the Hedgehog video game programmer Yuji Naka has revealed what he actually thinks about the character's new design, wanting to make a cameo in the live-action film by Paramount Pictures, and actually looking forward to watching the movie.

"Seeing the unfavorable reaction to Hollywood Sonic reminded me of this, but it looks like the CG is being made by Marza. Marza used to be Sega Visual Entertainment which I made, so I feel like I have some responsibility for it. Speaking of that, I said I wanted to appear as an extra in a movie. It looks like they forgot. It was pretty long ago so I had actually forgotten too, but I would have liked to appear in a movie."

Naka has also revealed the redesigns shown in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer have actually grown on him, especially Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik(Eggman) — who is shown looking very different from what he looks in the game, although the last shot of the trailer has Carrey sporting the iconic goggles, bald head, and majestic mustache the character sports in the games.

"After watching it a few times, I've started to get used to how Sonic looks. When stopped, it seems pretty out of place, but Sonic isn't supposed to be motionless and it's better when he's moving. Eggman left a good impression. I'm looking forward to it."

Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theaters on the 7th of November.
