When the first trailer for Paramount's
Sonic The Hedgehog movie dropped, it was immediately met with an immense amount of backlash. Fans were far from happy with the character's live-action design and thus voiced their opinions. Thankfully, the film's director listened, Jeff Fowler took to social media to confirm that the character will be redesigned on account of the negative reception.
Just yesterday, Fowler took to Twitter to announce that the movie's release date has been pushed back from November of this year to February of the next. This was more than likely to allow the talented CGI artists to remake Sonic's design from the ground up.
The actor who will be playing the iconic, blue speedster also took to social media (
@rejectedjokes) to share the news that Sonic's release date has been moved. Ben Schwartz shared the same image that the afformentioned director posted on Twitter, only the voice actor also pointed out an exciting detail.
In the image, Sonic is wearing his iconic, white gloves.
"Coming to your movie screens on 2/14/20! And... is that a GLOVE I SEE?!?!" Schwartz's Instagram caption read. This seems to imply that the character's redesign will be more akin to the beloved speedster's typical design: the one with skinny limbs, a cylcops-eye, and big, white gloves.

Sonic the Hedgehog will now release in theatres on February 14th, 2019.
