While Saints Row as a game series is all but officially dead (well, there's a Nintendo Switch port of Saints Row: The Third releasing on May 10th), it looks like Koch Films, a subsidiary of the German-based Koch Media, the conglomerate that owns Deep Silver – the series' publisher – is actually working on a movie adaptation of the world-famous franchise with F. Gary Gray attached to direct the flick.
According to Deadline, Saints Row's screenplay will be written by Greg Russo, who’s also scripting the Mortal Kombat reboot at Warner Bros. and another Resident Evil reimagination for Constantin Films.
The film is a co-production between Fenix Studios, Koch Media, and Occupant Entertainment and will fall under Fenix Studios’ production and development deal with Starlight Culture Entertainment Group.
Considering that F. Gary Gray is responsible for major box office hits like Straight Outta Compton and The Fate of the Furious, it's rather safe to say that his take on Saints Row will be a rather bombastic one. As a reminder, Gray's latest picture, Men in Black: International, is coming to theaters June 14th.
The main Saints Row series consists of four titles, telling the high-octane stories of the Third Street Saints as they do their very best to destroy rival gangs in the fictional cities of Stilwater and Steelport.
