The highly anticipated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie recently held its world premiere in Japan and spinning out of that first screening are reports that the sequel contains two post-credit scenes.
Longtime Nintendo and Mario fans are already speculating on what those post-credit scenes could be. With it recently announced that Glen Powell would be voicing Fox McCloud aka Star Fox in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, fans have been theorizing that the next film in the partnership between Illumination and Nintendo will be a Super Smash Bros. film.
Could one of the post-credit scenes be a sneak peek at Master Hand, the primary antagonist in Super Smash Bros.?
Across the two Super Mario Bros. animated films, over 13 characters from the Smash Bros. franchise are set to appear, including the aforementioned Fox McCloud, Pikmin, Donkey Kong, R.O.B. and more.
And those are just the characters that have been confirmed before the sequel's release.
At the Japanese premiere, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto teased, "I truly hope these characters stay with you long after the movie ends tonight. And one more thing, it’s the 40th anniversary of Super Mario. You’ll find that there are a multitude of characters familiar and nostalgic from the Super Mario series, so I’d like to propose a challenge, count them if you can, if you dare."
It takes a lot of star power to save the galaxy. Don’t miss The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. In theaters April 1.
The Super Mario brothers are back for a cosmic sequel where the fate of the entire galaxy hangs in the balance. Alongside their loyal companion Toad and the celestial protector Rosalina, the brothers travel across the stars to stop the young heir’s crusade, eventually crossing paths with a friendly new ally, Yoshi. Despite the cosmic pressure, these plumbers prove they can handle any leak in the galaxy’s security—because when things get backed up, they always find a way to flush out the competition.
