Sonic Mania Plus just come out not even a week ago as an expansion for the original
Sonic Mania released in August of 2017. The classic art style as well as the original gameplay making a comeback made it the best reviewed
Sonic game in 15 years and for good reason. Levels are vibrant and properly designed, music is up to par with the originals, if not better—especilly those remakes of the classic songs from the Genesis/ Mega Drive era, and it is simply a great game.
It seems that not only was
Sonic Mania harkening back to the 16-Bit era by keeping the aesthetics intact, but also by adding something that has seen somewhat of a decline in the past decade or so: cheat codes.
As reported by Sonic Stadium, there have been found a bunch of cheat codes that can be used in
Sonic Mania to give players infinite Continues, all the Chaos Emeralds, Super Sonic Flight, Max Control for Sonic(adding all of his abilities from previous games, as well as the new Dropdash), and more!
These cheat codes work on all versions of the game but Sonic Stadium remarks that they are not aware if the "
Plus" DLC is needed in order to get the codes to work, although they incourage players to try them out any way. They do mention that they don't work on Encore Mode and that some codes only work for Sonic, so keep that in mind.
In order to enable the codes players need to follow these steps:
Enter Mania Mode and go to ‘No Save’.
You now need to enter the code for the level select.

PS4: Hold Square, Select No save.

Xbox: Hold X, Select No save.

Switch: Hold Y, Select No save.
You will now be at the level select.
Go to sound test and play the following sounds to enable the desired code.

The fact that the developers even thought of the idea of adding cheat codes to
Sonic Mania is further proof that they were the right people to bring the franchise back to life. It's details like these that make games so much better, especially when these cheats were likely never to be revealed by the developers, leaving them for fans to discover—exactly the way it was back in the day.
