Following that incredible first teaser trailer for Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2, anticipation is at an all-time high. Beyond what we saw there, very little is known about the game, but Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has now offered up some additional details. Talking at an MKM Partners event today, he said the developers are pleased with the reaction to that sneak peek and the hype surrounding it.
He then went on to explain why now is a good time to bring the Red Dead Redemption franchise back. "The conventional wisdom was of course that a western wouldn't work," he said. "We took a different point of view, which is that very occasionally westerns capture the imagination of the public. When we launched Red Dead, it did. And those times were right for that. And I think the times are right for a big, sprawling, optimistic view of America--and that's not meant to be cute."
That seems appropriate given the current political climate, and while Zelnick was obviously reluctant to give away any specific story details, he did point out that the sequel will offer "incredible emotional depth" and that, "You can expect there to be great story elements and great gameplay elements."
This all sounds great, but with Red Dead Redemption not set to be released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One until next Fall, it could be a while before we get any additional specifics on the title.
