A surprise physical release for the current-gen version of Red Dead Redemption appears to be on the horizon. Online retailer Wakkap in Spain has listed a PS5 disc edition of the game, scheduled for release on May 7, 2026, priced at €32.90 (roughly $40 USD). This would be significantly cheaper than the current $50 digital PS5-native version.

The listing has not been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games, but it is not uncommon for retailers to receive inventory and begin taking pre-orders before a formal announcement. The digital re-release of the original Red Dead Redemption on modern consoles in December 2025 proved highly popular, quickly topping download charts on both PlayStation and Xbox. A physical edition would make strategic sense, especially as many players continue to prefer owning physical copies for preservation and collection purposes.

Potential Switch 2 Port Also in Play

In addition to the PS5 listing, fresh rumors suggest that Red Dead Redemption 2 could also be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, with a physical edition option. While no concrete retailer listings have surfaced for the sequel yet, the speculation aligns with Rockstar’s recent pattern of bringing its older catalog to new hardware. The original Red Dead Redemption already received a Switch 2 version (digital and code-in-box) alongside its current-gen update, so an enhanced RDR2 port would be a logical next step.

A physical PS5 release of the updated Red Dead Redemption would give collectors and traditionalists a tangible version of the remastered classic, complete with improved visuals and performance. The lower price point compared to the digital edition could also encourage more sales, particularly among players who have held off on purchasing the re-release.

For those who prefer physical media, this would help address concerns about long-term ownership and digital library longevity. Even as digital sales continue to dominate, the demand for physical games has not disappeared, and Rockstar has shown willingness to cater to that audience with recent re-releases.

The potential physical edition arrives during a busy year for Rockstar. The studio is preparing for the November 19, 2026 launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, while also maintaining updates for GTA Online and Red Dead Online. Rumors of an enhanced Red Dead Redemption 2 edition later in 2026 continue to circulate, which would further expand the franchise’s presence on current and next-generation platforms.

Whether the PS5 physical listing is legitimate or an early inventory error remains to be seen, but the timing and pricing make it a plausible move. If confirmed, it would give fans another way to experience one of Rockstar’s most beloved single-player stories in a premium, modern format.

Keep an eye on official Rockstar channels in the coming days. A formal announcement about the physical edition and possibly more details on Switch 2 plans could arrive soon.
