In a statement posted on social media, EA Star Wars and Stig Asmussen, overseeing Game Director, addressed the reasoning behind Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's the release delay, stating that the team is focused on polishing the final release while also enhancing the game's performance.
The following comments also seemed highly supportive of their work and decision:
DirectorVince Zampella, CEO and Group General Manager of Respawn Entertainment, also issued a statement in which he stated that Respawn is "committed to developing games that feel pleasant to play."
Zampella continued on, "We're proud of the game this team has created and giving them the extra time ensures that on April 28th we're delivering another great Star Wars experience for our players."
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order follows the story of a young Padawan named Cal Kestis who is on the run from the Galactic Empire after the fall of the Jedi Order. With the help of his companions, the droids BD-1 and MR-7, Cal travels to various planets in the Star Wars galaxy to uncover the truth about his past and gain the knowledge and skills needed to become a full-fledged Jedi. Along the way, Cal must confront the Inquisitors and the Galactic Empire, who seek to eliminate all remaining Jedi. The game offers an action-packed and immersive experience, with a focus on character development and the exploration of the Star Wars universe.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which was first unveiled in May, is the sequel to Respawn's first foray into the property, which drew more than 20 million players over the course of many releases. Fallen Order, which starred Cal Kestis as a Jedi escaping the Purge, received accolades for its superb combat and all-around compelling plot but also criticism for its lack of polish.
Polish has consistently been a difficulty for EA for the past few years. Battlefield 2042 received scathing criticism for its launch issues in 2021, and despite the development team'sefforts to resolve community concerns, it continues to have perception issues. These could be lessons learned and justifications for postponing Jedi: Survivor, along with a stated goal to minimize crunch whenever feasible.
