Shadow of the Tomb Raider is being developed by Eidos Montreal (which acquired Crystal Dynamics in 1998), the creators of the last two Deus Ex games (Human Revolution & Mankind Divided) and the recent Thief reboot, in collaboration with the original developer on the series. The game will launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One this September and here's what owners of Xbox One X should expect.

According to Windows Central, Eidos Montréal studio head David Anfossi said yesterday EPN TV that Shadow of the Tomb Raider ran at "4K 60 FPS" on Xbox One X. It turns out that it was a mistake and miscommunication. Square Enix confirmed today that the Xbox One X version of Shadow of the Tomb Raider doesn't run at promised 4K / 60 FPS, but features a few graphical options to choose from.

Players will choose to render Shadow at 4K / 30 FPS or 1080p / 60 FPS which will be similar to what the gamers got with Rise of the Tomb Raider's Xbox One X upgrade. "Shadow of the Tomb Raider will not run 60 FPS while in 4K." Square Enix explained in today's statement. "To allow for a more customized gameplay experience, the game will include two visual modes: '4K Resolution' which runs in 4K resolution at 30 FPS, and 'High Resolution' which is targeting 1080p at 60 FPS. Both modes will feature a wide variety of additional enhancements such as HDR, improved physically-based rendering, hardware tessellation, anisotropic filtering, additional dynamic foliage, and more."

Considering that Shadow of the Tomb Raider uses the same technology as Rise of the Tomb Raider, and the rebooted Tomb Raider and runs on the built in-house Foundation Engine, the owners of PlayStation 4 Pro will receive similar options, including the 4K, Enriched Visuals, and High Frame Rate modes.

Experience Lara Croft’s defining moment as she becomes the Tomb Raider. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara must master a deadly jungle, overcome terrifying tombs, and persevere through her darkest hour. As she races to save the world from a Maya apocalypse, Lara will ultimately be forged into the Tomb Raider she is destined to be.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 14th.
