SNK's Mai Shiranui is set to arrive in Street Fighter next month. Best known from the Fatal Fury fighting game series, Mai is the second-ever guest character to be featured in the Street Fighter series.
The Alluring Kunoichi will be available on February 6, 2025, and will be playable across all three game modes, including Fighting Ground and Battle Hub. In addition to announcing her release date, Capcom also shared a sizzling gameplay trailer that highlights Mai's unique fighting style. She mixes her signature moveset inspired by a variety of SNK classics with the modern mechanics of Street Fighter 6.
Fans of the Fatal Fury series will undoubtedly recognize some of Mai's familiar moves, although she's definitely upped her fighting game with newer techniques, including flaming projectiles, divekicks, and more. Below is a fresh look at Mai's moves in Street Fighter 6 along with a detailed description of them.
- Kachousen: Mai throws her fan like a fireball. When used normally, the fan loses to other projectiles and your opponent’s strikes can knock them down. But when you hold down the input, they can no longer be neutralized by strikes. In addition, if the fan hits an opponent, it will pop up and fall down on them for another hit.
- Ryuuenbu: Spin forward in a fiery blaze for combos or to control space.
- Hissatsu Shinobi Bachi: Perform a cartwheel and fly towards opponents to elbow them. The OD version sends Mai into the air to follow up on the attack or to surprise opponents below.
- Hishou Ryuuenjin: Mai’s dragon punch, which works as an effective anti-air as she delivers a flying upwards kick bathed in flame.
- Kagerou no Mai: Mai’s Level 1 Super Art, she sets the immediate vicinity on fire, which can be useful as an anti-air move or combo ender. The move also gives Mai five Flame Stocks which give all of Mai’s special moves and Level 1 and 2 Super Arts special properties.
- Chou Hissatsu Shinobi Bachi: Mai’s Level 2 Super Art where she rushes forward in a blaze of glory that can get around projectiles.
- Shiranui Ryuu: Enbu Ada Zakura: Mai’s Level 3 Super Art, she flies like a butterfly and stings like a bee in a series of elegant fan strikes.
Mai will be available in Street Fighter 6 on February 5th for anyone who already owns or purchases the Year 2 Character Pass or Year 2 Ultimate Pass. She can also be acquired with Fighter coins.
She will arrive with two Outfits, the first which represents her classic style across SNK's Fatal Fury series. Outfit 2 is a newer look, more inspired by her appearance in the upcoming Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. You can acquire Outfit 2 via Fighter Coins or by maxing out your bond with her in World Tour.
Mai was one of four downloadable characters announced for Street Fighter 6 last year. Street Fighter iconic villain M. Bison was added last year along with fellow Fatal Fury crossover fighter Terry Bogard. Elena, who first appeared in Street Fighter 3: New Generation, will be released sometime this spring, rounding out our Year 2 fighters.
Street Fighter 6, which released in 2023, has sold over four million copies. It's currently available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
