Earlier this month, it was reported that development on The Wolf Among Us 2 was still progressing at Telltale Games. Despite being announced in 2018, turbulence at Telltale Games, which included the studio shutting down and being revived again, resulted in uncertainty about a sequel season to the episode adventure game.
But this month, an IGN article reporting on the internal struggles of Deck Nine — the studio previously working on a pre-production script for The Wolf Among Us 2 — featured a comment from Telltale Games about the game's status.
The developer told IGN that The Wolf Among Us 2 was "in production internally at Telltale."
And this week, we got our first glimpse of the highly anticipated sophomore season.
"We’ve been quiet because we’ve been heads down, focusing on the promise of [The Wolf Among us 2]. While we can't give a big update yet, here’s a little something for you: In-progress shots from the current build," the developer wrote on the Telltale community forums. "The work continues. The Fabletown gang will be back. Thanks for being fans."
One of the images gives us a look at a snowy city skyline as we see a character — presumably Bigsby — on the roof of a building. The second screenshot shows two characters having a conversation. A third screenshot is of Bigsby again, talking to someone, with a somewhat surprised look on his face. The fourth screenshot appears to show some gameplay as Bigsby is investigating a kitchen.
All four images were shared by Geoff Keighley online, which could suggest our first official look at the game could come during Summer Game Fest this summer. This year's big gaming event kicks off on June 7th.
The Wolf Among Us is an episodic graphic adventure game based on Bill Willingham's Fables comic book series. Telltale's game served as a prequel to the comic book series and was released in episodic format throughout 2013 and 2014. The game was generally well-received by critics and fans, and in July 2017, Telltale announced that a second season would be released in 2018.
Of course, it's been six years since that announcement, and lots of behind-the-scenes drama has unfolded at Telltale since then. But it's nice to see actual proof that work is continuing to progress on the highly anticipated second season of The Wolf Among Us.
