EA's Iron Man Gameplay Finally Surfaces... In A Leaked Trailer

Four years after EA and Marvel Games announced it, the first real footage of Motive Studio's Iron Man is out in the wild, and it didn't arrive through the official channels. A rough-cut trailer leaked online this week, and ComicBookMovie.com picked it up when it hit X.

The cutscenes are visibly unfinished, so keep that in mind before judging anything. What they show is an MCU-inspired Tony Stark alongside first looks at Pepper Potts, Obadiah Stane, and Crimson Dynamo.

The gameplay is what's getting people excited! The footage shows Iron Man flying around an open-world New York that immediately brings Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man games to mind, and New York isn't the whole map. There are fights in Japan and a battle aboard a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier too.

Combat mixes fists with the armor's full weapons loadout, and it already looks like a massive step up from the SEGA games that accompanied the first two Iron Man films back in 2008 and 2010. Those were the last time the character headlined his own console game, which is a long drought for a hero this big!

The game was announced back in September 2022 as a single-player, third-person action-adventure with an original story, one EA said would tap into the character's rich history and channel Tony Stark's complexity, charisma, and creative genius. Bill Rosemann, VP and Creative Director at Marvel Games, said at the time that Motive's "authentic passion for the armored icon" would "fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game."

Executive Producer Olivier Proulx added: "We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team."

Motive is the team behind the Dead Space remake and Star Wars: Squadrons, so the studio has handled big licenses before. After four years a release date and playable platforms are yet to be announced. After EA canceled its Black Panther game and closed Cliffhanger Games last year, Iron Man is the only title left from the EA-Marvel deal.

EA hasn't commented on the leak, and rough footage like this usually gets pulled quickly, so watch it while the post is up!

Does the open-world approach look right for Iron Man?
