Back in 2016, when
Assassin's Creed: Origins was still known as
AC: Empire, a 4Chan user
revealed some pretty fascinating information on the game and Ubisoft's bigger plans for the series, that was enjoying a year-long break at the time. This mysterious leaker has not only spoiled
Origins' setting and deepened RPG mechanics, but also revealed that the next
AC after
Origins (last year's
Odyssey) would be coming to Ancient Greece, with the last entry in that "prequel" trilogy heading to Roman Empire.
While Kotaku's Jason Schreier (who admittedly leaked proven details on
Assassin's Creed: Syndicate and
Origins in the past) doesn't believe this new leak is real, it's still worth your attention, especially since the 2016 NeoGAF leak ultimately turned out to be pretty accurate. According to
an anonymous 4Chan user (
who also revealed new details on Watch_Dogs 3), the next
AC is codenamed
Legion.
Apparently,
Legion is a cross-gen project (meaning it will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and also their next-gen successors) that will be released next year. As revealed by the mysterious user,
Legion is set in Italy at the end of Marcus Aurelius' reign. As you may remember, his troublesome son, Commodus (played by Joaquin Phoenix) was the main villain of Ridley Scott's award-winning
Gladiator.
The 4Chan user claims that Commodus is the game's main character, with the storyline focusing on his struggles during the Year of the Five Emperors (193 AD). Reportedly, the player will also choose between playing as Cassius or Lucia, descendants of unknown "
characters" from
Origins and
Odyssey.
Just like
AC:
Odyssey,
Legion is reportedly featuring "
choices and heavy RPG elements" What would definitely make fans of older
AC games happy, the user reports that the main story "
is more involved in assassins and politics with first civ and flashbacks to other points in Rome history being secondary."
The game's map is "
mainland Italy" as well as a small part of "
Gaul and Germania like Libya in Origins" and is set to feature a "
revised mercenary and cultist system." The leaker has also revealed that the game is being made by theUbisoft Sofia team, the creators of
Assassin's Creed: Rogue and
Liberation.
At the time of writing, Ubisoft had not shared any details on the next
Asassin's Creed video game.
