After reports leaked the newest Assassin's Creed game from Ubisoft, the developer/publisher has come out and officially confirmed the new game will in fact be titled Assassin's Creed Mirage. With the new game now confirmed, we can look forward to a proper reveal next week at Ubisoft Forward.
The publisher showcase will be held on September 10th at 9:00 p.m. CEST / 12 p.m. PT. Fans can tune in to the event which will be broadcast on YouTube, Twitch and the official Ubisoft website.
Accompanying the announcement of Assassin's Creed Mirage was a single piece of promotional art showing presumably the protagonist -- rumored to be Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Basim -- dropping in for an assassination. Beyond this key art, the initial leak also revealed some additional details about Assassin's Creed Mirage.
It's rumored that the game will be set in Baghdad and take place between 860 and 870, during the Anarchy of Samarra. If the protagonist is indeed Basim, it will be him during his youth as a thief prior to when he arrived at the Hidden Ones.
Ubisoft is said to be taking the franchise "back to the basics," which could mean the removal of dialogue choices, gender choice and the leveling system. It's also rumored that Assassin's Creed Mirage will exist on a smaller scale than more recent games in the franchise. It's worth noting that prominent game journalist Jason Schreier has stated that not all of the leaks are true, such as the ability to explore multiple cities.
In any case, we should get more clarity when Assassin's Creed Mirage is officially unveiled at Ubisoft Forward. The game is expected to launch in Spring 2023, but we'll likely get confirmation of a release date during the event as well.
In addition to Assassin's Creed Mirage, it's also rumored that Ubisoft is working on a remake of the original Assassin's Creed based on the artwork of of the latest game. They will reportedly reuse a large part of the assets. If the remake does turn out to be true, then it could be integrated into the Season Pass and also include DLC set in Constantinople.
Assassin's Creed Mirage will be the latest in Ubisoft's long-running action-adventure series. It will be the 13th major installment and the first mainline game since Assassin's Creed Valhalla which launched two years ago in 2020. The game received mostly positive reviews with many praising the narrative and character development. However, the general gameplay mechanics and systems left more to be desired.
