Assassin's Creed Odyssey is making a lot of important changes to the old formula, following directly in the Origins footsteps. Ubisoft Quebec's latest effort will give you an unprecedented in the beloved series freedom of choice, as you will have a chance to choose not only between main missions, story-based side quests and even two main protagonists, but also decide what the hero you'll pick will wear.
Odyssey takes place long before last year's Origins during the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. That war happened between 431-404 BC, nearly 400 years before the events of Origins. The fact that Odyssey is a prequel, gives the team an opportunity to show the origins of the Assassin's Creed universe as neither the Assassins nor the Templars had officially been formed back then.
In a recent Reddit AMA, Creative Director Jonathan Dumont revealed that we will witness the story behind the creation of the Pieces of Eden, the sources of unlimited power and technologically sophisticated devices crafted by the alien First Civilization to control humans. "From a lore perspective, we wanted to tell the story of how First Civ artifacts created what would become the Templars vs Assassins story, which took place long before the Brotherhood," the creative director said.
Interestingly enough, both optional protagonists Alexios and Kassandra wield the fabled Broken Spear of the legendary Leonidas, which is both a Piece of Eden and essentially a proto-Hidden Blade. Dumont also confirmed that Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a direct continuation of the modern day story of Layla who debuted in Origins, so players will pick-up right after the end of grand Bayek's adventure.
