Assassin's Creed Shadows will reportedly have a co-op game mode, which reports claim is currently in development at Ubisoft. Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson has learned that Ubisoft is currently developing a co-op game mode, currently codenamed LEAGUE, that is scheduled to release post-launch.
Keep in mind, that Assassin's Creed Shadows, which was due out in November, was recently pushed back to February 14, 2025. According to Henderson's sources, LEAGUE was in development "long before" the game's postponement, and it wasn't an addition because of the delay.
Details about the co-op game mode are still being kept under wraps, but it's not hard to imagine what it would look like given the game's dual protagonists. It's speculated that co-op will allow Naoe and Yasuke to fight side-by-side with their different combat abilities to defeat enemies.
News of this co-op game mode follows Henderson's detailing of Ubisoft's behind-the-scenes handling of Assassin's Creed Shadows and its delay. Ubisoft previously explained that the delay would allow them "to further polish the title," which Henderson acknowledges but also notes that many of these issues were brought a while ago by members of the team who pushed for a delay.
He also addressed persistent online rumors, confirming that Yasuke is not being removed from the game. However, Ubisoft is "actively addressing many of the historical and cultural concerns" involving the game's setting.
Henderson also notes that Assassin's Creed Invictus, a fully-fledged multiplayer experience, is also expected to release in 2025. The game is rumored to be similar to Fall Guys, a massively multiplayer platform party royale game in which players compete to race across absurd obstacle courses. Again, while official details for Assassin's Creed Invictus are light, the game was described to feature a team deathmatch, free-for-all, and a “speed game where you have to go to luminous points scattered on the map.”
In addition to Assassin's Creed Shadows and Assassin's Creed Invictus, there are rumors that Ubisoft is also working on an Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake under the code name Obsidian. There's also Codename Hexe, which has been described as the "darkest Assassin's Creed to date."
Leaked earlier this year, Codename Hexe is said to feature a single female playable protagonist, named Elsa, who possesses supernatural abilities. It's reported that this will be a more "linear experience" compared to other games in the series, although there still will be "some elements of open-world exploration."
