Ubisoft announced today that the next installment in the Assassin's Creed franchise will be revealed on Wednesday, May 15.
Previously revealed and referred to as "Assassin’s Creed Codename RED," the official title has now been revealed. It is called Assassin's Creed Shadows.
First revealed back in September 2022, Ubisoft teased that Assassin's Creed Codename RED will take players to feudal Japan. Today's reveal announcement confirmed that will still be the main setting for the game.
Other than it being an "open-world RPG experience," not much else is known about the game. We know that Wednesday's reveal will consist of a cinematic world premiere trailer, but hopefully, Ubisoft will share a few gameplay details as well. Fans can tune into the reveal at 9:00 a.m. PT / 12:00 p.m. ET.
Alongside the reveal of Assassin's Creed Shadows, we may even learn more about Assassin's Creed Codename INFINITY, a hub "that connects players through different types of Assassin's Creed experiences."
Ubisoft confirmed back in 2022 that both Assassin's Creed Codename RED (now Shadows) will be connected to Codename Infinity.
Assassin's Creed Shadows was being developed by Ubisoft Quebec (makers of Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Assassin's Creed Syndicate) with Creative Director Jonathan Dumont.
Following Assassin's Creed Shadows, which will likely release later this year, Ubisoft has already announced development on the next installment in the franchise, Codename Hexe. It's rumored that Codename Hexe will be released in 2026.
Again, not much is known about this game either but a teaser from that same 2022 Ubisoft Forward event heavily implied a focus on witchcraft, with reports that the game will be set in Central Europe during the 16th century Holy Roman Empire. It's also said to be more of a "linear experience" compared to its predecessors, although there still will be "some elements of open-world exploration."
Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe will also be run through the Codename Hexe portal.
Ubisoft made no mention of this hub in its teaser for Assassin's Creed Shadows, but perhaps we'll get some more information on it as well.
In addition to this week's reveal stream, Ubisoft has already announced another livestream event next month. Ubisoft Forward will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024. If Wednesday's reveal is simply a cinematic trailer, then we can expect more in-depth details about the game — including possible gameplay — during Ubisoft Forward next month.
