Assassin's Creed Valhalla is Ubisoft's brand-new entry in the long-running Assassin's Creed series, which was finally released last week for both current-gen and next-gen consoles, as well as PC, and giving players a new open-world adventure that will take them to the Viking Age.
According to Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed Valhalla's launch has been quite massive, revealing that the number of active players has even managed to double that of predecessor Assassin's Creed Odyssey — with Chief Executive Officer Yves Guillemot also revealing that they are humbled by the reception the game hs had.
A new report by GamesIndustry.biz has revealed that this success Assassin's Creed Valhalla has had since launch has also been reflected in the United Kingdom, where the recently released title was revealed to have beat Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was actually released on the same week Assassin's Creed Valhalla launched, and for the exacta the same number of platforms, but what's interesting here is that the Call of Duty series had successfully managed to take the number 1 spot in the UK charts on launch week, and this is the first time in 13 years that this has not been the case.
As revealed by GamesIndustry.biz, the above only includes physical sales, so it is possible that this will not necessarily reflect the total number of sales both Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War have made.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, chances are that digital sales will do a better job reflecting how these games are doing individually; regardless, this is still quite the achievement for Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Ubisoft.
