Earlier this week, the whole world witnessed as the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris was covered in flames whilst undergoing restoration, causing considerable damage to the historical Catholic cathedral.
The day after the fire, French video game company Ubisoft announced that they would be making a very generous donation of €500,000 to aid the restoration of the Notre-Dame cathedral.
Ubisoft also revealed that they would be offering
Assassin's Creed: Unity completely for free on PC; a game that takes place in Paris and prominently features French Gothic buildings, as well as the Notre-Dame cathedral itself.
If you're not familiar with
Assassin's Creed: Unity, it is a game that was released in 2014 and got some very mixed reviews, getting criticized for the sheer amount of bugs found in the game, as well as several issues with its graphics.
It turns out that after Ubisoft announced that they would be donating money to help restore Notre-Dame, and also announcing that
Assassin's Creed: Unity would be free for PC players, the game has been reverse-review bombed by overwhelmingly positive reviews.
One of the reviews reads "
I played the game after Ubisoft had fixed all its issues. That being said the positivity brought by this game in light of the tragic event with the Notre Dame cathedral, makes me proud to have played this game.", while another claims that the game may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is still worth checking out for what Ubisoft has done.
"I hope this game will be able to help the repairation [sic] of Notre-Dame de Paris.. Although its not a good game for everybody (seems like) but Ubisoft paid much efforts on this."
Ubisoft donating €500,000 to help with the cathedral's restoration, as well as giving Assassin's Creed: Unity away for PC players is definitely something to commend. Keep it up, Ubisoft, our hats are off to you.
