There's little doubt that Ubisoft is the master of designing games as a service. Rainbow 6: Siege is in one of the most-played games on Steam (and had managed to break the 35 million player mark right before the E3), The Crew 2's post-launch plans are even more ambitious and Ubisoft Montreal releases a new Far Cry 5 DLC now-and-then, but everyone makes mistakes and Ubisoft is no exception to this.
To solve the "crowded menus" problem, Ubisoft has decided to get rid of over 600 items from the game. "Today begins a 2-week SUMMER SALE in the For Honor store/barracks of 146 items (600+ if you count dupes across heroes, emote types, etc) we've released in the game," Ubisoft Community Developer Eric Pope wrote on Reddit. "But there's a much more important reason WHY we are doing this. In two weeks, we will remove those items from the Store. They will return periodically afterwards in a regular rotation, and at a discount," Pope said. Here's the decision's explanation:
"This is being done to unclutter the rather crowded menus you find in the game, and clear out OLD content, to make room for the constantly flowing NEW weekly content," Pope added. Thankfully, if you own the items that are going away, they won't be removed from your inventory. Also, even after they go away, many can still be obtained in the different bundles available in For Honor's store.
We have to agree that it's a pretty rare strategy to solve For Honor's crowded menus issue. Instead of simply remaking and redesigning the UI which would be nice and make sense, Ubisoft will remove the items and add them again later for no reason. Fighting for honor has a whole new meaning now.
Enter the chaos of a raging war as a bold Knight, brutal Viking, or deadly Samurai, three of the greatest warrior factions of legend. For Honor is a fast-paced and immersive experience, mixing skill with visceral, never-before-seen melee combat. Storm castles in massive battles and confront deadly bosses in the memorable story campaign and support your allies while slaughtering enemies in the groundbreaking multiplayer modes where your combat skills will make the difference between life and death.
