Kratos Actor Says God Of War Endures Because Santa Monica Respects Its Fans

Christopher Judge has a clear explanation for why God of War has lasted as long as it has. Speaking during a panel at Fan Expo Boston, the actor who voices Kratos in the Norse-era games said Sony Santa Monica Studio’s genuine respect for its audience is a major part of the series’ staying power.

"People invite you into their homes," Judge said. "The least you can do is respect what they have to say." He described the relationship between a developer and its players as one that carries responsibility. When someone spends money and time bringing a game into their personal space, the studio owes them more than a finished product. It owes them attention.

Judge pointed to Santa Monica’s willingness to listen as something that sets the studio apart. In his view, that posture has helped God of War remain relevant across more than two decades and two very different narrative eras. The original Greek saga established the character through raw spectacle and rage. The 2018 soft reboot and its sequel Ragnarok reinvented Kratos as a more restrained father figure without losing the intensity that defined him. Both periods, Judge suggested, benefited from a studio that treated fan feedback as worth hearing.

The actor also highlighted a concrete example of that respect in action. He praised Santa Monica’s decision to bring original Kratos voice actor T.C. Carson back for an upcoming remake of the early trilogy. Carson originated the role in the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 games. Reuniting him with the character for a modernized version of those stories signals an understanding that continuity and long-term attachment matter to the audience.

Judge has become one of the most prominent public faces of the current God of War era. His performance helped sell the tonal shift that many fans initially approached with caution. The fact that he now speaks so directly about the studio’s relationship with players adds weight to the comments. He is not an outside observer. He has lived inside the franchise for years and seen how creative decisions land with the people who play the games.

God of War remains one of PlayStation’s flagship series precisely because it has managed major transitions without losing its core identity. Few action franchises successfully reinvent themselves while keeping both critical respect and a dedicated audience. Judge’s explanation places the credit less on any single design choice and more on a consistent attitude toward the community that supports the work.

The remarks fit a broader pattern of the actor speaking openly about the franchise. He has previously discussed how the role affected his own perspective and has shown a willingness to address both the creative process and the expectations that surround a character as iconic as Kratos. The Fan Expo comments extend that openness to the studio’s philosophy.

Santa Monica has not issued a formal reply to Judge’s statements. The studio’s track record of post-launch support, quality-of-life updates, and careful handling of the series’ legacy offers its own form of response. The choice to involve Carson in the upcoming trilogy remake further aligns with the values Judge described.

For a series that has already crossed from one mythology to another and from one generation of hardware to the next, the question of longevity is always present. Judge’s answer is uncomplicated. Treat the audience as people who have invited the work into their homes. Listen to what they have to say. In his assessment, that basic stance is one of the main reasons God of War is still here and still matters.
