Revealed at this year's E3, Capcom's
Resident Evil 2 remake became an instant hit, as well as one of the most talked about titles revealed—even managing to win the
Best of Show from the Game Critics Awards.
Resident Evil 2 will not only improve the original game's graphics but is also a reimagined version of the game, giving veteran players a brand new experience and offering newcomers a proper introduction to the series.
Amongst the changes that we know the game is making, we found out that
Resident Evil 2 is getting rid of A/B character scenarios, making the whole story a bit easier to follow by eliminating multiple playthroughs in order to get both character's stories.
Now we have found out that the
Resident Evil 2 remake will not be including VR support, as stated by Capcom producers Tsuyoshi Kanada and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi in an interview with the DailyStar during this past E3.
"We’re not thinking about VR support currently, given that the camera perspective and the over-the-shoulder choice would mean that VR is not the best way to present the game. VR doesn’t match the vision for us", explained Kanada when asked if Resident Evil 2 would support VR given that Resident Evil 7 had done such great job implementing it.
The question was mainly making allusion to the reveal trailer in which we saw some part of the action through a rat's point of view—which plays out in first-person. Hirabayashi jokingly replied by saying "...thinking about it, maybe giving you the rat’s eye view in the trailer might have given people the wrong idea! But if you think there is Rat VR coming… that’s not the case".
VR is more of a gimmick that most games don't need unless strictly programmed to deliver a proper VR experience. First-person games work well in VR but not everything needs to be converted, so it is great news to find out that they won't be implementing VR just for the sake of it. Maybe in the future another Resident Evil game like RE7 could do that from the get-go and give VR fans what they want. Whatever the case, we just can't wait for the 25th of January to arrive so that we can finally get to play Resident Evil 2.
The genre-defining masterpiece Resident Evil 2 returns, completely re-built from the ground up for a deeper narrative experience. Using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, Resident Evil 2 offers a fresh take on the classic survival horror saga with breathtakingly realistic visuals, heart-poundingly immersive audio, a new over-the-shoulder camera, and modernized controls on top of gameplay modes from the original game.
Resident Evil 2 will be available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on the 25th of January 2019.
