MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN 2 May Release In September, According To Venom Voice Actor

Tony Todd, the voice of Venom in Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man 2, offered a possible release date for the highly anticipated sequel, and it's based on some compelling evidence.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is one of this year's most anticipated games although Sony hasn't revealed exactly when the blockbuster sequel will release. Sony previously narrowed the launch window to Fall 2023 but we haven't had an update on its status since December of last year.

However, over on Twitter, actor Tony Todd, who voices Venom in the game, offered his own speculation that the game could launch in September. Todd is basing this off a "massive" publicity event planned in August.

"Commercials start dropping in August so I'm told," he continued. "Hold on to your ... and hold breath! Gonna be necessary."

It's worth noting that Sony hasn't officially announced a release date, so this is just Todd's own speculation. That said, the original Marvel's Spider-Man also released in September, so there is precedence.

Regardless of when exactly Marvel's Spider-Man 2 launches, it's almost guaranteed to be a hit for Sony. The 2018 action-adventure from Insomniac Games sold 3.3 million units on PlayStation 4 in just its first three days of release. It became the fastest-selling first-party game in Sony's history and eventually the fastest-selling and best-selling superhero game in the United States. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will almost certainly match or exceed those sales as there's even greater anticipation now that players know what to expect.

We really haven't seen or heard much of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 since it was first revealed back in 2021. The sequel will continue the adventures of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales "in their most epic single-player adventure yet." While Parker was the main character in Marvel's Spider-Man, Miles Morales received his own standalone game in 2020. Both Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter are reprising their roles as Peter and Miles, respectively.

"Just as in our previous Spider-Man games, we not only want to tell a great Super Hero story, but also deliver a compelling human story, one full of heart and humor that dives deep into the people behind the mask," Insomniac teased back in 2021.

Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the introduction of a brand new character — one of Spider-Man's most formidable foes: Venom. The symbiote-fueled Venom will be voiced by Tony Todd (Candyman).

So mark your calendars because it sounds like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 could be with us in just a few more months. It's possible Sony could make some sort of official announcement regarding the game's release this Summer.
