Insomniac Games have filled
Marvel's Spider-Man to the brim with awesome Easter Eggs. Some of the best include Stan Lee's heartwarming cameo appearance and Lockjaw being in place of the Wall Street Bull - but this newly spotted one might top them all.
Back in 2004, to coincide with the theatrical release of Sam Raimi's
Spider-Man 2, Treyarch released a game of the same name. Though riding the coattails of the film, it was entirely its own thing - consisting of its own story and cast of characters, the only similarity being Tobey Maguire in the role of the titular hero. Until Insomniac's new title came along, it was arguably the best Spider-Man game - the mantle has evidently been taken, but that's beside the point.
If you played
Spider-Man 2 then you're bound to be familiar with the "My Balloon" mission. It saw a child lose his grip on a blue balloon and enlist Spidey to go and catch it. The level is renowned for both being finicky as well as the child itself - who cried, both tears, and the words "My balloon!" throughout, constantly, annoyingly.
Regardless, the reference is in the form of one of Marvel's Spider-Man's "Backpack collectibles". Throughout Peter's eight years as the wall-crawler, he's misplaced many a school backpack around the city and you're tasked with finding them all. Each time you find one, you're gifted with a little trinket - something which references either a momentus occasion in Peter's life or a fan-favourite Spidey villain.
One of the backpack's contains a drawing, clearly be a young child based on the artistic decisions - examining it will cause Spidey to reminisce on being at this child's aid, by rescuing their balloon. Check it out below:
