Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and The Crew's Creative Director Julian Gerighty has revealed on Twitter that he's working on a new Splinter Cell game, making those disappointed by the recent announcement of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint more than happy – as fans of the long-running series have been eagerly anticipating a new entry in the stealth franchise since the release of 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
Unfortunately, it seems that Gerighty was just making an innocent joke that doesn't confirm anything.
"Julian was obviously joking as Julian likes to do," a Ubisoft rep told PC Gamer. "It looks like our creative directors are having fun right now. We don't have any announcements to make at this time."
According to Kotaku's Jason Schreier, the tweet "has made the internet explode, but it's a bunch of Ubisoft creative directors, each of whom has *their own* projects, getting drunk at a Ubi summit and trolling you all." Given that Splinter Cell 7 is the only game that was leaked by Walmart in May 2018 and hasn't been revealed yet, there's still hope that Ubisoft is making a new title with Sam Fisher.
Considering that E3 2019 starts next month and Ubisoft's annual press conference will be held on Monday, June 10 at 1:00 p.m. PT (10:00AM ET, 7:00AM GMT, 6:00AM on June 11 AEST), there's a small chance that the long-rumored Splinter Cell 7 will be one of the stars of the French publisher's big show.
