Rumours of a brand new
Splinter Cell game have been swirling around for years now. After all, it has been six years since the latest instalment released — that being
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
Almost exactly a year ago, the
CEO of Ubisoft teased that the
Splinter Cell franchise would return one day. However, a reputable journalist by the name of
Jason Schreier recently mentioned that there isn't a new
Splinter Cell game in the works at Ubisoft — though admitted that he isn't absolutely certain of that.
Despite that, it appears that
Gamestop are hinting at there being a new instalment on the way. The retailer recently launched pre-orders for a set of replica goggles based on the
Splinter Cell series. The interesting bit is included in the description of the product wherein it is mentioned that a tenth instalment is on the horizon. You can read an excerpt from the description below:
"For the first time since the introduction of Splinter Cell in 2002, after nine top selling AAA+ titles, and with the 10th release on the horizon, this is your first chance to own Sam Fisher's signature Ultra High-Frequency Sonar Goggles."
This could be down to human error but why would somebody have such certainty in their assumption that a new instalment is on the way enough to mention it in the description of a new product? Perhaps the retailer knows something that we don't.
