It has been over five years since the release of the last instalment in the Splinter Cell series and though many believed that a new Splinter Cell game was in-development at Ubisoft, and would possibly be revealed at E3 2018, the event passed without a mention of Sam Fisher or his sneaky hijinks - but there's still hope.

Geoff Keighley, host and producer of The Game Awards, recently uploaded a trailer for the upcoming event, and though Keighley claims that it isn't meant to tease, many are skeptical. Keighley states in the tweet that he edited the teaser himself and that it's simply meant to show his affection to the industry and build up hype for The Game Awards.

The trailer features snippets of recently released titles, like God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, Detroit: Become Human, and Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as upcoming games, like The Last of Us Part II, Beyond Good and Evil 2, Anthem, Death Stranding, Gears 5, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, one game which features in the trailer that doesn't quite fit with the rest is Splinter Cell.

If Keighley simply wanted to celebrate Tom Clancy's contributions to the industry then surely he would've included a clip of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands. But no, Keighley notably featured Sam Fisher in his iconic garb, despite that we haven't seen him in a new title since 2013.

What do you think of Keighley's teaser? Is there something to this speculation?
