Following
this week's Comic-Con trailer for
The Walking Dead: The Final Season, Telltale Games has released a pretty lengthy gameplay video from the upcoming season of the series. The demo features the first fifteen minutes of
The Final Season's first episode, which is set to release on August 14.
Thankfully, there aren't really any spoilers as we're just being introduced to the duo of Clementine and AJ as they explore an abandoned town. The demo showcases the core gameplay mechanics of
The Final Season which are pretty in line with what we've seen in past seasons. Most of it is narrative-driven storytelling where you sit back and watch and maybe make a few choices that have lasting consequences throughout the season. There are a few moments of intense quick time sequences, but nothing we haven't seen in previous Telltale games.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the demo is just how much
The Final Season seems to mirror Season 1 of Telltale's
The Walking Dead series. In the first season, we were introduced to a much younger Clementine and tasked with protecting her as Lee Everett, who taught her the basics of survival in this post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested world. In
The Final Season, Clementine is now much older and finds herself not only looking after young AJ, but teaching him the same valuable lessons she learned with Lee. Alas, we've come full circle.
The currently untitled first episode of
The Final Season will be available for download on August 14 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One and is currently available for pre-order for $19.99. Pre-ordering guarantees access to each of the season's four episodes as they become available. Additionally, anyone who pre-orders on Xbox One or PS4 will receive access to
The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series Collection, which bundles all 19 previously released episodes in the series into a single package.
The Walking Dead: The Final Season will be released for Nintendo Switch later this year.
