Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was finally released today, and fans of Akira Toriyama's long-running, and popular series are now able to relive the whole story playing as Goku and friends; exploring the game's massive world, and fighting some of the universe's most powerful foes.

One thing that took a lot of people by surprise, was the fact that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was, indeed, including the Z saga in its entirety — especially since the announcement trailer seemed to suggest that the game would only be focusing on the Saiyan and Frieza sagas.

In a recent interview with PlayStation Blog, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Lead Producer Ryosuke Hara and community specialist Sam Wilkinson talked about the challenges of adapting every single one of the sagas in the Z series; revealing that their goal was always to include everything.

When asked if they ever considered to cover only the early sagas of the series, Hara explains that their "initial goal of this project was not only to tell the story of Dragon Ball Z, but to allow the players to experience the journey that Goku and the Z-Warriors shared, becoming stronger and building up their bonds. We felt that this had to be delivered in one package."

Given that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot covers quite a lot of content, Hara also comments on how they approached including all of this content in order to do the series justice and keep fans pleased.

"Dragon Ball Z is loved all over the world, so of course everyone has their personal favorite scene. This made it difficult to set a specific guideline when deciding which moments to include," explains Hara while adding that everyone working on the game are lifelong Dragon Ball fans, and that they "knew the only thing we could do was continue discussing the best way to please as many Dragon Ball fans as possible."
