Set 15 years after the deadly zombie outbreak,
Dying Light 2 will showcase what happened when the dust settled and remaining survivors managed to find a way to rebuild the fallen world. According to Techland, the creators of
Dying Light and
Call of Juarez, this terrible new situation has forced humanity to take a few steps back, resulting in a setting described by Techland as the "
Modern Dark Ages."
While
Dying Light 2 was announced at Microsoft's E3 2018 media briefing nearly a year ago, the zombie sandbox is still a quite mysterious title. Thanks to GamesRadar+'s exclusive coverage, we will definitely learn more about the highly anticipated sequel in the coming days, starting with a never-before-seen concept art of one of the corrupted enemies you'll encounter during your playthrough:
“
We have this whole cycle of infected life in the game”
Dying Light 2’s Lead Game Designer Tymon Smektała said. “
The infected start as a Viral, which is someone who just got bitten and just got infected, so they still show traces of humanity, and at this point they are very quick, very dangerous, they avoid the sun at all costs. But after some time in that state, they turn into what we call Biters, which are regular zombies; slowly moving infected that, if able, will try and grab you and infect you or eat you, but the sunlight is dangerous to them, and they're not as quick and as agile as the Virals.”
“And if Biters stay in the sun for a long period of time or under a UV light, they turn into Degenerates; decaying zombies that are very weak with pieces of flesh falling off of them, so they’re not really that dangerous to you. But still you have to keep an eye for them because Dying Light 2 is a systemic game, a lot of things happen emergently. And of course, there’s a different path of evolution for the Infected where they turn into the Volatiles, which are the most dangerous, extreme night predators. If you see them, you just need to run. There’s no fighting with those guys because they will just kill you.”
Considering that fighting the undead was pretty hard in the first game, the fact that it will be even more challenging this time around suggests that mastering your freerunning skills will be key to surviving in The City (yes, it's the official name of
Dying Light 2's playground), especially at nights.
The fate of a decaying City is in your hands. Every choice matters. Discover the bold sequel to a best-selling open-world phenomenon.
Dying Light 2 is coming out in 2019.
