In many ways, 2017's
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was a true miracle. This "triple-A indie" title has not only managed to win countless awards and sell millions of copies, but also opened the doors to other game development studios that are focused on telling meaningful (even if relatively short) stories.
With every new trailer and interview with the Asobo Studio crew (the same people that co-developed
Fuel, The Crew, and
ReCore), it becomes more and more evident that their
A Plague Tale: Innocence might be the next
Hellblade that will make us wonder how those quite small studios make better, or at the very least more memorable video games than the vast majority of third-party companies.
IGN has released nearly 20 minutes of all-new gameplay footage from
Innocence, giving us a unique chance to take a closer look at the game's core mechanics. In
A Plague Tale, you will play as siblings Amicia and Hugo as they struggle through the heart of the ruthless world of 14th century France plagued by the Black Death. To survive, they will have to not only avoid corrupted soldiers, but also unstoppable swarms of rats (with up to 5,000 rodents displayed at once). Be sure to check it out below:
A Plague Tale: Innocence, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, tells the grim story of two siblings fighting together for survival in the darkest hours of History. This new video game from Asobo Studio sends you on an emotional journey through the 14th century France, with gameplay combining adventure, action and stealth, supported by a compelling story. Follow the young Amicia and her little brother Hugo, who face the brutality of a ravaged world as they discover their purpose to expose a dark secret. On the run from the Inquisition's soldiers, surrounded by unstoppable swarms of rats incarnating the Black Death, Amicia and Hugo will learn to know and trust each other as they struggle for their lives against all odds.
