AI: The Somnium Files is the new project by game director Kotaro Uchikoshi, and developed by Spike Chunsoft. Kotaro Uchikoshi is the man responsible for
Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors on the Nintendo DS, and its sequel
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward for the Nintendo 3DS.
The game also features character designs by manga artist, and character designer, Yusuke Kozaki, who has also worked on games like
No More Heroes, the
Fire Emblem series,
Half-Minute Hero, and is even credited for the design of Lucky Chloe in
Tekken 7.
While the AI: The Somnium Files announcement trailer doesn't really tell us much, we do get that the main character's name is Kaname Date, who is a detective. If we go by
Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, and
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward, it could probably mean that this game will be some sort of point and click type of adventure game that will have players solving complex puzzles in a story that will focus heavily on narrative—providing players with the ability to choose their own actions, which will affect the plot and the game's ending.
AI: The Somnium Files has no release date yet but is expected to come out for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.
