Bloodstained is a new IP by former Konami producer, and director Koji Igarashi—who had been involved in the
Castlevania series since the fantastic
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and developed by 505 Games.
After Igarashi's departure from Konami, he has been working on
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, which is a spiritual successor to
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, after a successful Kickstarter Campaign that took place in 2015.
One of the Kickstarter Campaign's stretch goals was to make a Castlevania spiritual successor with 8-Bit graphics. The end product was a spinoff to
Ritual of the Night titled
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, which ended up being released on the
24th of May.
A demo for
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night had also be announced to be released on the 27th of June but ended up being delayed to the 28th due to some bugs that needed fixing. These bugs were first encountered at this year's E3 and 505 Games deemed necessary to delay the demo until everything was working fine.
The catch here is that the
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night demo is only available for Kickstarter backers that paid $60 or more for the game, which definitely raises more than a few eyebrows given that these backers have already paid for the game and don't need any more convincing. It feels more like the demo is some sort of apology for all the time the game's taking to get made. On the other hand,
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon got pretty good reviews so it is safe to assume that it will not end up being a bad game—whenever it actually ends up coming out—in the meantime, check out this new story trailer for
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Play as Miriam, an orphan scarred by an alchemist's curse that slowly crystallizes her body. Battle through a demon-infested castle and defeat its master to save yourself, and all of humanity.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam in 2018.
