The other day, it was reported that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will require 175 gigabytes of storage on whatever system you intend to play it on — be it the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. This was because various outlets revealed the minimum requirements and recommended specifications for getting the upcoming shooter to run smoothly on a PC.

While the specs were pretty standard for the most part — you can check them out here — but a clear outlier was the required storage. It was believed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will take up 175 GB but this has now been confirmed as not the case.

While there are an increasing number of games nowadays which require massive amounts of storage space, Red Dead Redemption 2 for example with its 100+ GB requirement, players were shocked nonetheless to find out that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare would be so demanding.

Activision has spoken out to calm the storm and clarified that the upcoming game won't, in fact, require that much space. However, the publisher doesn't go as far as to reveal the actual size of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare but rather simply say that it will be smaller than 175GB — which likely means that the game won't be that demanding but will still probably somewhat demanding.

“In each of the Specs, the HDD references HD space of 175GB,” Activision said in an official post about the system requirements. “175GB is the storage space we recommend players keep available in order to download the post-launch content we’ll be bringing to Modern Warfare. At launch, the initial download will be smaller.”
