Taiko no Tatsujin is a series of rhythm games developed by Bandai Namco, initially released for Japanese arcades back in 2001. Taiko no Tatsujin is now making its way into the West on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on the
2nd of November.
While the latest version of
Taiko no Tatsujin was released last week for the Nintendo Switch in Japan, two new and different versions are being made for the PS4 and Switch when they come to the West—these versions being
Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum Session! for the PS4 and
Taiko no Tatsujin Drum 'n' Fun! for the Switch.
The premise of the game is simply trying to match the notes show on the screen by hitting the drumsticks on a simulated Taiko drum—at least when playing on the arcade version. Console versions of the game have relied on classic button hitting for the notes, although other consoles like the DS, 3DS, and mobile devices have relied on their touchscreens.
It seems that
Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun! for the Switch will make use of the Joy-Con controllers to simulate the drumsticks, as shown on the game's logo—which could make the game feel a bit more like the arcade version. Although not officially confirmed, the PlayStation 4 version of the game could well end up using the PS Move to simulate the effect.
