Yesterday, many Star Wars fans were left disappointed when a report from Kotaku said EA Vancouver's Orca project (a codename for their open-world Star Wars game) was cancelled, and now EA has released a statement responding to this report.
"There’s been speculation overnight about one of our ‘Star Wars’ projects,” the statement reads. "As a natural part of the creative process, the great work by our team in Vancouver continues and will evolve into future Star Wars content and games. We’re fully committed to making more Star Wars games, we’re very excited about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order from Respawn, and we’ll share more about our new projects when the time is right."
The above comments from the publisher doesn't outright confirm or deny the report from Kotaku, but it does promise that EA Vancouver isn't done working on Star Wars projects, which lines up with yesterday's news. Also, the statement is clearly trying to put any fans who are concerned about the future of EA's Star Wars games at ease.
EA's involvement in the development of Star Wars titles hasn't been a complete disaster, but issues like the lack of a campaign mode in 2015's Battlefront and Star Wars: Battlefront II's loot crate debacle have soured some fans on their plans for the franchise. As a result, many were looking at Vancouver's open-world game and Respawn's forthcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to restore their interest in future projects.
