As we've seen with games like Marvel's Spider-Man, a compelling story is just as important as the action and gameplay in a superhero game. We don't know much about EA Motive's Iron Man game yet, but the studio appears to be putting together a solid writing team that will help capture the essence of the popular comic book character.
Following the studio's update on the game, which is still in early pre-preproduction, we have now learned that the studio has tapped award-winning Marvel writer Ryan North to help pen the story for Marvel's Iron Man.
North revealed his involvement with the project on social media, writing: "It's no secret that I love Iron Man and have written my heart out for Tony Stark every chance I've had. So I'm PRETTY STOKED to say I'm part of the writing team on the upcoming IRON MAN game from [Motive Studio]."
He added that Marvel fans "are not ready for how amazing this game is going to be."
North is the creator and author of Dinosaur Comics, but has also worked on numerous major properties including Adventure Time and Marvel Comics' The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. He's won multiple Eisner Awards including "Best Publication for Teens (ages 13-17)" for The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and "Best Humor Publication" for Jughead, both in 2017.
As far as video games, North does have some experience, writing the 2021 action-adventure Lost in Random from developer Zoink and publisher Electronic Arts.
North isn't the only big-named writer involved in EA's Iron Man project. Ashley Cooper, who helped write Gotham Knights and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, revealed in May that she was brought on as a Senior Write for the game.
Last week was our first major update on the status of Motive's Iron Man game. The studio confirmed it was still "early in pre-production," but also revealed that it was being built using Unreal Engine 5. Not much else was shared, unfortunately.
Revealed last September, Marvel's Iron Man will be a single-player, third-person, action-adventure. No release date or platforms have been announced.
