It's time to draw your sword and embrace death, as SNK's new entry in their long-running sword-fighting series, Samurai Shodown, has finally become available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One today; bringing back those refined gameplay mechanics that SNK fighting titles are so well-known for.

This new Samurai Shodown is actually a reboot for the series, although this new entry keeps things familiar for long-time players, while at the same time adding a few new things to keep things fres. This game's protagonist will not be Haohmaru, but a brand-new character called Yashamaru Kurama — who is joined by newcomers Darli Dagger and Wu-Ruixiang.

SNK has also revealed that Samurai Shodown will be getting post-launch characters like Rimururu, Basara, Kazuki Kazama, and Wan-fu — all of which stemming from previous entries in the Samurai Shodown series — bringing the game's roster to a total of 16 characters at launch plus 4 DLC characters that will be released at a later date.

To celebrate the occasion, SNK has released an action-packed launch trailer that shows off all of the "day 1" characters drawing their weapons as they embrace death in Samurai Shodown.

After more than a decade, Samurai Shodown is back! SNK is rebooting one of its most successful series, carrying on the legacy of past titles with a new game that retains the same thrilling battles of past titles in a graphically advanced package.

Samurai Shodown is available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC today.
