Mortal Kombat 11 is not only about battling other players in multiplayer, but also learning more about the game's universe and most important characters in a proper single-player campaign mode. In the title, the player will have to face Kronika, the highly anticipated fighting game's main antagonist, who has villainous and ambitious plans to create a new era by joining forces with Shao Kahn.

According to Mortal Kombat 11's Story Director Dominic Cianciolo, the solo mode "is looking to be around eight hours long," he said in a recent interview with GameReactor "I can roughly estimate how long the cinematics and everything are, but I can't tell you exactly how long the story mode will be. We did however learn from a representative that the story is looking to be around eight hours long."

Considering that it took about five hours to beat Mortal Kombat X (and even less to finish the reboot from 2011), it's a pretty good result, obviously if Cianciolo's words are anything to go by.

When it comes to the online component, NetherRealm has confirmed that players will have a chance to battle their friends and strangers as Scorpion, Raiden, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Baraka, Skarlet, Geras, Kano, Kabal, D'Vorah, Jade, Johnny Cage, Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, Erron Black, and Shao Kahn.

Mortal Kombat is back and better than ever in the next evolution of the iconic franchise. The all new Custom Character Variations give you unprecedented control to customize the fighters and make them your own. The new graphics engine showcasing every skull-shattering, eye-popping moment, brings you so close to the fight you can feel it. And featuring a roster of new and returning Klassic Fighters, Mortal Kombat’s best in class cinematic story mode continues the epic saga over 25 years in the making.

Mortal Kombat 11 will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on the 23rd of April; Nintendo Switch version will release on the 10th of May.
