A few weeks ago, Capcom revealed that they were adding Sponsored Content to
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition in the form of ads that would be applied to the game's stages and showing up during matches; which did not bode well with fans of the popular fighting series.
While the ads could be turned off by the player at any given time, this would also mean that they would not be making any Fight Money, which is
Street Fighter V's in-game currency that allows players to purchase additional costumes and colours for the fighters.
Last week we reported that
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition producer Yoshinori Ono addressed these issues, stating that they were listening, and appreciate the community's feedback on the whole Sponsored Content debacle.
As it turns out, Sponsored Content can no longer be found in
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition; a mere two weeks after they were even introduced. However, a new report claims that in-game ads were always meant to show up in-game for a limited time, and this had already been planned by Capcom.
According to EventHubs, when trying to select colours 3-10 on an Ad-Style costume will give players an error that reads: "the sponsor is currently not available, so you cannot use the selected colour".
Sponsored Content disappearing from Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition was, according to the initial post for the Capcom Pro Tour, was only meant to last until the 25th of December, so this is likely not due to the massive fan backlash that the whole thing rightfully encouraged.
While this is good news, ads making a comeback in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is a more-than-likely scenario. In-game ads is already a terrible idea as it is, especially because Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is a title players pay full price for, and they shouldn't have to put up with annoying sponsored content that locks Fight Money.
Hopefully these ads never come back because a trend like that is anything but good news for players and the gaming community as a whole.
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is a brand-new disc that includes all base content from the original Street Fighter V release, Arcade Mode and a code for Character Pass 1 and 2 content, which includes 12 playable characters and 12 premium costumes.
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is currently available for the PlayStation 4 and Steam.
