Dragon Ball FighterZ is arguably the best
Dragon Ball fighting game ever made. There have been quite a bunch of great
Dragon Ball games in the past, especially the
Tenkaichi Budokai and the
Budokai series(I promise this is not a typo, both have the word Budokai in them), but both of those titles were pretty casual when it came to competitive fighting games.
A competitive fighting game does meet certain criteria that
Dragon Ball games never quite had, mainly because they're easy to pick up and easy to master. In very simnple words, a competitive fighting game may be easy to pick up, but there is so much more that players can do when they actually get to master the game, and this is where Arc System Works is introduced to the
Dragon Ball series.
Arc System Works have a great reputation when it comes to fighting games, being the developers of great fighting games liek the
Guilty Gear and
Blaz Blue series, both reeking with gorgeous character designs that make them look like they came straight out an anime. Both their mastery of the visual style and the fighting mechanics they've implemented in their games made them the perfect match for a competitive
Dragon Ball fighting game—especially after Bandai Namco's success with the
Dragon Ball Xenoverse series.
The newest episode of 'Did You Know Gaming?' tells us all about
Dragon Ball FighterZ, why Bandai Namco approached Arc System Works to help them develop the game, why they decided to go with a more anime style, some interesting details about the animations themselves, how they came up with ideas for new characters like Android 21, and more.
