Aliens: Colonial Marines. Arguably the most disappointing game of the last decade that had been promoted by Sega and Gearbox with fake trailers, misleading statements and the behind the scenes drama between the Aliens rights owner Sega that wanted Colonial Marines to be similar to a Call of Duty game, with less Aliens and more Marines to shoot at, and Gearbox that disagreed with that vision.
The game ultimately turned out to be a big pile of steaming sh*t leaving the players with destroyed hopes and dreams. The fact that Gearbox and Saga lied to everyone wasn't even the biggest issue (as Ubisoft did the same with Watch_Dogs and still managed to deliver a decent final product) as the cooperative shooter was filled with horrible creative decisions and Aliens' AI that was especially bad.
It looks like fixing a single spelling mistake improves the AI dramatically! According to the jamesdickinson963 member of Mod DB's community, Gearbox had made a typo that would eventually become the main reason why Aliens behaved like a bunch of drunk twerkers in the game.
Inside Aliens: Colonial Marines' config file James found the following line of code :
ClassRemapping=PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachXenoToTether -> PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachPawnToTeather
We're sure you've instantly notice the spelling mistake as the correct line of code should look like this:
ClassRemapping=PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachXenoToTether -> PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachPawnToTether
The PC Gamer crew has examined the change and the corrected version drastically improves Aliens' AI. In their experience, Aliens were not only considerably more aggressive, as they're also much better at tracking the player. Naturally, the AI is still far from being actually good (it's funny that the original Thief's AI is more intelligent that most of the curren-gen titles). If you already own the game on Steam, we recommend trying fixing the typo yourself, you won't make the experience any worse, we promise.
