Although
Battlefield V launched as a bare-bones project, the team at DICE is working hard to live up to the expectations of the first-person shooter series' fans – as the Mercury map is now available to play.
Inspired by the real-world Operation Mercury (it took place in May 1941), the new theater of war is based on the Battle of Crete – waged between the British and the invading German forces. According to DICE, "
Gameplay-wise, Mercury is all about verticality, all-out war, and asymmetrical vehicle forces; British troops have tanks and only a small number of planes while Germans will control the skies. Leverage the rocky slopes for intense vertical gameplay and close quarters gameplay."
Mercury reportedly features some design choices from
Battlefield 1942's Guadalcanal,
Battlefield 4's Altai Range map
, and
Battlefield 1’s Monte Grappa, so the series veterans will definitely instantly recognize familiar fortifications and objects – which might be key to conquering the vast battlefield.
EA has released a special trailer that puts the spotlight on the Mercury map, so be sure to check it out:
