According to a reputable leaker, Sledgehammer Games is developing a follow-up to their 2014 Call of Duty title, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. This entry in the series was set in the future and, infamously, was the first to implement advanced movement, such a double-jumps and wall-running, for instance.
It's no secret that Sledgehammer's latest addition to the popular first-person shooter franchise, Call of Duty: Vanguard, didn't perform all too well critically or financially, at least compared to its peers. Thus, it's said that Sledgehammer has abandoned their original plan to expand on the World War II-set world of Call of Duty: Vanguard and fall back on something familiar.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches later this month and will be the incumbent instalment in the series for an unusual two years, until 2024 when Treyarch picks up the torch. If this leak is true, that would mean that Activision has immediately abandoned the idea to give each new Call of Duty game a two-year life cycle.
Leaker, RalphsValve, says Sledgehammer aims to "strip away from World War shooters, and instead return to the battlegrounds of the future, ushering back in an era of Advanced Warfare on the now unified IW 9.0 engine." Additionally, the report mentions that Sledgehammer may introduce a futuristic spin on the Call of Duty: Warzone battle royale.
Of course, while this leaker has proven reputable in the past, always take scoops like these with a pinch of salt.
