As Destiny 2 approaches its final chapter, The Final Shape, Bungie is giving gamers a chance to catch up with the story before its release.
Today, Bungie made free three previously released expansions: Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and The Witch Queen. Additionally, the most recent Lightfall expansion is also free to download for all PlayStation Plus members.
Although seasonal content from the years' past has since been removed from the game, these expansions still provide players with access to the Stasis and Strand Darkness subclasses, three extra raids, new exotic weapons and gear. They also expand upon Destiny 2's long-running narrative which is now referred to by Bungie as the "Light and Darkness Saga." The Final Shape, which arrives in June will mark an end to this epic saga.
In addition to these expansions, all season content from Destiny Year 6 is available to everyone through June 3. This includes content from Season of Defiance, Season of the Deep, Season of the Witch, and Season of the Wish.
In April, Bungie released Into the Light, a free update that adds new activities and weapons to help prepare players for The Final Shape. Over the next couple of weeks, Bungie will continue to release new content for the game. This includes the newly launched PvP Map Pack that brings three new maps to the game: Cirrus Plaza, Eventide Labs, and Dissonance. There's also the new wave-based defense Onslaught activity; the new Hall of Champions social space; reprised The Whisper and Zero Hour Exotic missions; and a new raid boss gauntlet called The Pantheon.
For those who are interested in even more content, you can get the Lightfaull + Annual Pass bundle which is available at a discount starting today across the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store and Epic Games Store. Normally $99.99, you can save 70% and get it for just $29.99. While the big selling point for the Lightfall Expansion was access to the three seasons (which are now free), there are also a bunch of cosmetic items plus the Dungeon Key and access to Rahool's Secret Stash.
Developed by Bungie, Destiny 2 first launched back in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The online first-person shooter/MMO built upon the universe established by its predecessor in 2014. The game was initially praised for its improvements on the original game, especially in regards to its story, exploration, multiplayer experience, and more.
Over time though, Destiny 2 has undergone numerous changes, including the biggest transformation from a premium to a free-to-play game. Bungie still releases paid expansions regularly that continue to add narrative, but now we are working toward the grand finale. The Final Shape releases on June 4 marking an end to the current saga and beginning a new one.
