Bungie is gearing up to launch its first season of content for
Destiny 2 since the developer split with Activision. It's called
Season of the Drifter, and it will feature a mix of free and annual pass content released over the next 90 days.
Bungie released a gameplay calendar along with a developer diary that runs through the assortment of new content coming to
Destiny 2 with
Season of the Drifter. Among the new modes is Gambit Prime, a more-intense, evolved version of the PvE/PvP hybrid mode Gambit with some major changes, including new character roles within the mode. Gambit Prime will bring some higher risks, but in turn, offers better rewards.
Gambit Prime actually leads into a new Destiny 2 endgame activity called
The Reckoning. Described as a "pinnacle PvE experience," Guardians will be transported to inside the Drifter's ball in a new challenge that belongs to the Nine. In this difficult mode, you will be attacked by swarms of enemies. Survive and you'll unlock armor and perks that "make you the ultimate competitor in Gambit Prime."
As you play through Reckoning every week, you'll earn new pieces of armor for Gambit Prime. As Bungie explains, every piece of armor has the Drifter's snake decal with a color that corresponds to a specific role in Gambit Prime that the piece of armor excels in. For example, you can have an entire team decked out in armor for the Invader role.
To help boost players up to the current power level,
Season of the Drifter will introduce Power Surge Bounties. This will allow Annual Pass owners to quickly catch up to the power of fellow Guardians.
All of the major new content coming in
Season of the Drifter is highlighted in the developer diary below.
As a new season of Destiny begins, developers from Bungie are back on the record about how our shared adventure is about to evolve again. The Drifter is back with a new way to play Gambit, along with a full calendar of new challenges to make your Guardian more powerful.
As detailed in the gameplay calendar for
Destiny 2, Season of the Drifter won't only offer Annual Pass content, but free updates and content to be consumed by all players. In addition to Gambit Prime and The Reckoning, everyone will be able to participate in the Allegiance quest, a character-based questline where you can choose between the Vanguard and the Drifter.
Season of the Drifter will bring plenty more to
Destiny 2 over the next few months, so check out the roadmaps below.
