With the 50th anniversary of the moon landing approaching, Bungie has released a new developer video for
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep. With the upcoming expansion sending Guardians back to the moon for an all-new adventure, the timing of this video couldn't be more perfect.
In the video, Bungie discusses some of the new changes and twists players can expect when they return to the moon, which is now double in size with more than twice the number of places you can explore than the first game. Some of the more intriguing points of interest teased include an intimidating Hive castle on the surface and a new base that the Fallen are trying to build using parts from the fallen Ketch from the original
Destiny. Additionally, the moon will offer new Lost Sectors featuring locations from the first game that you previously couldn't get into.
Beyond gameplay,
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will improve upon the visuals from the original incarnation of the moon with enhanced lighting and art. It's all designed to create an ominous, mysterious tone which fits with the overall story. As briefly teased, the opening cinematic features Eris who has discovered a hidden darkness beneath the surface of the moon. What could it be? Bungie teases that hte upcoming expansion will provide more insight into the history of humanity, including the people who built these structures and what may have happened to them.
Something terrible sleeps beneath the lunar surface. Eris Morn entrusts you with these ominous clues—her letter of warning, a Hive Cryptoglyph that guards the secret of an unthinkable rite, and the records of a classified Golden Age expedition that could not survive the truth ... the same truth that you must now confront.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep is due out on September 17, 2019.
